A quiet yet elevated standard of living is enjoyed by residents of Bethesda and Chevy Chase. Appreciative of the arts and natural beauty of the region, both neighborhoods are home to festivals, art galleries, music venues, quiet parks, and secluded trails. One of D.C.’s more central communities is also close to trendy nightlife in nearby Georgetown and several national monuments and historic sites of the nation’s capital.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

French specialties from Duck Duck Goose, Bethesda’s most upscale brasserie, are the best accompaniments to a special night out on the town. Foie gras, dry-aged duck, weekend brunch, and a hearty ribeye for two are some favorites among patrons, served amid the warm company of traditional French hospitality.

Cesco Osteria presents classic Italian comforts in a wood-lined airy space. An additional outdoor terrace offers alfresco dining for guests to enjoy woodfired pizza, homemade pasta, and savory happy hour bites, paired with a glass of vino from their extensive list.

In Chevy Chase, La Ferme has been a neighborhood institution since 1985. A French country setting is the setting for a generously portioned brunch, old-world favorites, and a fluffy chocolate souffle, arguably the best way to top off an evening out.

The Merritt Gallery is one of the finest sources of art northwest of Washington, D.C. Their three locations house the highest number of artists in the Mid-Atlantic. Located within the heart of Chevy Chase, this top source among interior designers and art aficionados alike feature several mediums of artistic works which have been appreciated for over 30 years.

Things To Do

A regional appreciation for the fine arts is best seen at the Bethesda Fine Arts Festival, taking place each May. Fine art from over 125 of the nation’s most talented artists, local eateries, and live entertainment are featured at the D.C. area’s premier outdoor fine arts celebration. Another part of everyday life much appreciated by locals is the Bethesda Central Farm Market. Every Sunday throughout the year, one of the largest markets in the region hosts over 100 vendors and their fresh produce, artisan products, flowers, farm-fresh coffee beans, and more. Another opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors is a stroll down Little Falls Trail. The three-and-a-half-mile trail runs parallel to the Capital Crescent Trail and is perfectly shaded for better enjoyment on toasty summer days. Nearby, Glen Echo Park is a sprawling, nine-acre former amusement park now offering year-round recreation and activities for the whole family such as dances, classes, camps, and seasonal art walks.
